Thanks to Gary Orton and my co-worker, Joanne Lombardi, for the following great picture of Rainbow Falls:
Below is a photo from Karen and Dickie Huff, Kona residents and some of my BEST patients:
We are at a unique latitude in Kona where it is possible to see the Southern Cross and the Big Dipper–at the same time! Check out the picture I recently took of the Southern Cross from our home in North Kona:
This nice Honu pic at Makalawena Beach was taken by my trusty assistant, Katrina Sheehan:

My only visit to your particular island left me with allot of favorites .
Mary and I went to Volcanoes National Park. That has to be the “Hottest” place on the island to visit.
I can’t say that I am an authoritorian on your Isle with my one visit.
I was impressed with the small coffee farms dotting the coastline. Great website! I will have to mark as a fav. and dig into my photo archives and see if I have anything to contribute!

Now if you would have asked about restaurants in Honolulu we would have a few recommendations… hey, good idea…. if Carole’s guests are going on to Oahu, recommend Stage Restaurant and Amuse Wine Bar, on the second floor of the Honolulu Design Center http://www.stagerestauranthawaii.com
But back to Kona:
Best breakfast (or lunch): On the porch at the Aloha Cafe (attached to the Aloha Theater in Kainaliu) Yummy French Toast. They also have great burgers and sandwiches.
Best Beach (close to town) Kukio Beach.. just south of the Four Seasons at Hualalai. Drive north on the highway..turn left on Kukio Nui Road (near Mile Marker 87) and ask at the gatehouse for directions. Paved parking, paved path to the beach, nice clean bathrooms and shower, sandy kid-friendly beaches, good snorkeling and picnicking.
Best Beach (farther north) Maumae Beach (Pronounced Mow-my).. Access through the gate at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. The guard will give you directions. Seven power poles after you cross the bridge past the sewer plant is the parking area. Find the trailhead (easy) and when you get to the bottom of the first trail, turn LEFT and continue on the trail to the beach. Beautiful, white sand, no lava, private and not too many people. Best to get there before noon ( and always on a weekday) because the parking permits are limited.
Attached ( I think) is our favorite sunset… from January 2004…
When are you guys coming to Honolulu? Love, K & D
Great picture. I can’t paste it into here so it will go into the “Favorite pictures”.
Thanks!
